by: Mildred J. Prades- EPS II- ALS
Data Management training of ALS implementers in Camarines was held at Naga Regent Hotel on December 1-3, 2016. District ALS Coordinators, Mobile Teachers and VIDA Volunteers participated in the three-day training workshop.
The training-workshop was facilitated by the Australian Volunteers for International Development Shelley Mcinerney, Simone Hockins and Education Program Specialists Mercy S. Castillo, Mildred J. Prades, Edgar A. Tabagan and Sonny A. Taugan. The first day started with the preliminaries in the opening program and was followed right away by leveling of expectations. The participants were asked to group and talk about their complaints, dreams and plans along with data management. The complaining wall covered their expectations about the training while the dream wall talked about their contributions to achieve their goals and the planning wall covered steps on how they will improve data gathering, management and security.
After lunch, the participants were asked to focus ones attention on the basic information about the type of data they gather as ALS implementers and how they store and ensure security of the data. In the workshop they were asked to follow step by step process of encoding and formatting data using excel.
The first time users of excel showed interest in learning how to encode using the commands given. The next day participants were grouped as basic and intermediate. The basic group had one to one tutorial while the intermediate followed the instructions flashed on the screen as each was asked to submit output of the workshop.
The last day of the training dwelt on how to present data using graphs. The implementers were also informed on how they will improve the MIS reports submitted. They were also asked to fill out evaluation sheets and were requested to sign in for other topics they want to be helped with by AVIDs and EPSs.
